At Ateljé, we keep our impact in mind with everything we do. We're now a Certified B Corporation™. Which means we're constantly working on reducing our impact, and getting independently checked on it. This is where we are.

We aim to brighten up your day with cool, colourful and conscious accessories.

We are aware that making things isn't sustainable at its core. So we don't call ourselves a sustainable brand. We're a brand that's working on it, with concrete choices, every step of the way. And now also officially a Certified B Corporation™.

Reducing our impact has been part of how we work from day one, not a topic somewhere off to the side. It's something we keep at, collection by collection, month by month.

We're far from perfect yet, and sometimes we struggle to find the right answers or ways of working. But we think it's important to share steps along the way instead of just big end results. So here we go.

NEWLY RECYCLED PHONE CASES

A growing share of our products is made from recycled plastics (TPU). For cases and cords, we're already past 50%. For our other product groups, over 30%. The goal: cases and cords above 70% within three years, and other groups above 50%.

Every collection, we look at what we're using and ask whether there's something better available yet.

Our best seller Cloudy pearl and Pearl drop cords are now also fully made of recycled plastic (ABS).

As these are our best sellers, and we create these in the highest volume of our assortment as this is a Never Out of Stock style, this is directly impactful.

GOVERNANCE

We've had a notary write our responsibility for making responsible choices into our company statutes. So it's not a vibe that depends on whoever's in charge. It's literally part of how the company is legally set up. Locked in.

REDUCING RETURNS

Returns aren't free, by design. Ordering a lot of items online and returning most of them has real impact. So we'd rather help our customers make considered choices than encourage browse-shopping.

PACKAGING

We started out wanting fully plastic-free packaging, and we got there. But the products kept arriving damaged, and that's actually a bigger problem than the packaging itself. So we switched to FSC-certified paper with a small recycled plastic window.

Our wrapping paper and stickers are made by the lovely people at No Issue, using recycled paper and soy ink. For smaller deliveries, we use grass paper envelopes.

OUR MANUFACTURERS

Our factories qualify for the certifications that are important to us, such as BSCI, GRS, FSC and GOTS.

Since the beginning, we've worked with a Dutch production partner who has relationships with some of the best factories in China, the place where the tech accessory business is mostly based.

We're working on going deeper into the value chain, getting to know the people behind the people we already work with. Slow work. We're at the start of it.

OUR SUPPORT OF PLAN INTERNATIONAL: GIRLS FIRST

Ateljé’s founder Yara Michels is a proud ambassador of Plan International. Change a girl's life, and she will change the world, is a shared vision between them that we are passionate about at Ateljé.

Plan International is a Girls First organisation, meaning they focus on the wellbeing and human rights of girls and women firstly. It allows anyone to donate to specific programs - from fighting against child marriages to improving menstrual health worldwide, to the right for girls' education. At Ateljé, we make a yearly donation on the International Day of the Girl.

OUR OFFICE RESPONSIBILITY

Our office is energy-efficient, running on green energy but we also have quite a bit of second hand furniture.

Albeit small, our own, daily human actions as a team make a difference too. After all, we're in the office more days than not! We bike to our Amsterdam office, only drive electric when we use a car for work, bring our own refill water bottles, recycle our coffee capsules, eat vegetarian at the office. We promote a largely paper free office using digital and cloud solutions.
